Molina Healthcare of Nevada Grants $100,000 to Community Health Alliance, Driving Transformational Impact in Maternal Health and Addiction Treatment

Molina Healthcare Check Presentation to CHA for Maternal Health and MAT Program

Community Health Alliance (CHA), the largest Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in Northern Nevada serving over 32,000 patients, proudly acknowledges the profound impact of a $100,000 grant from Molina Healthcare of Nevada (Molina), which has significantly strengthened two vital programs, CHA’s Maternal Health Program and Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) Program. Over the past year, these initiatives have transformed healthcare access and outcomes for individuals in Northern Nevada.

The funding from Molina has enabled CHA to enhance critical maternal health services by hiring a midwife and equipping facilities with essential medical tools, thereby expanding access to prenatal care for underserved families in Washoe County. Through these efforts, CHA has supported more than 300 expecting mothers, fostering healthier pregnancies and improving birth outcomes.

“I had just moved to Reno and had no idea what to do or where to go,” said Samantha, a first-time mom served by CHA. “I had heard about CHA, scheduled my first appointment with an OBGYN and from the start I felt safe, welcomed, and most importantly, my needs and concerns were addressed.”

The grant has also played a pivotal role in the success of CHA’s MAT program, which was launched in response to the growing opioid crisis in Washoe County. The program provides evidence-based treatment, including medication-assisted therapy and behavioral health support, to individuals struggling with opioid use disorder. With a focus on holistic recovery, CHA has integrated primary care services, clinical pharmacy, counseling, and peer support, empowering patients on their path to long-term wellness.

“We are incredibly grateful to Molina for its generous support, which has enabled us to create meaningful and lasting change in our community for our residents,” said CHA Chief Medical Officer Dr. Travis Walker. “This investment has allowed us to reach more patients, break down barriers to care, and enhance the quality of services we provide.”

CHA continues to build upon the progress made possible by this grant, working towards sustainable healthcare solutions that uplift individuals and families in need.

“Molina understands that access to quality healthcare is fundamental, and communities across the state rely on FQHCs to provide care that helps keep them and their loved ones healthy,” said Nima Alinejad, chief medical officer at Molina Healthcare of Nevada. “We are proud to partner with CHA and commend them on the success they have achieved for the benefit of our residents to strengthen maternal and addiction care services in Nevada.”

Molina awarded the grant to CHA in June 2024 as part of its commitment in Nevada to enhancing access to care for the whole person, including behavioral health services and maternal health care.
