Raising awareness on health issues related to older adults.

Below is a written transcript of the interview in English:
Luis Latino: Hi friends! I am Luis Latino and once again we are in the segment of “Tu cita de Salud” with Community Health Alliance and Dr. Travis Walker. How are you doctor?
Dr. Walker: I am doing well, and you?
Luis Latino: Good because we’re learning a lot about older adults. That’s the topic today. What are the diseases that affect our older adults?
Dr. Walker: There are a variety of things that can affect our older patients. Things like pneumonia and falls. Many times we are focused on preventing such falls, as diseases can be prevented. To prevent fractures due to falls, it is very important to stay active such as walking to maintain strength, especially pay attention to balance. Also, carpets where people can potentially trip over.
Luis Latino: You mean that one has to assess the space and plan out the walkway in your home?
Dr. Walker: Yes, and you can prepare the house to prevent falls. Also, make sure to watch out for pets, but on top of falls, we have to worry about pneumonia and preventable diseases such as the flu and COVID-19. There are vaccines to fight those.
Luis Latino: Perfect! At what age is a person considered an older adult?
Dr. Walker: Well, someone older than me. Over 55 years old, but most people start having problems when they’re 65.
Luis Latino: All these diseases could be prevented if we adopted a healthier way of life.
Dr. Walker: Always.
Luis Latino: Diet? Exercise?
Dr. Walker: Yes, all that helps a lot. Eating well including your vegetables and fruits. Less fried food. Eating well always helps. Exercise always helps. Sometimes there are problems no matter what you do to prevent it. This is why it is very important for our older patients to see the doctor frequently to prevent things and to pay attention to the patient.
Luis Latino: Of course! Among other things, Community Health Alliance has everything and has locations throughout the city. They also offer pharmacy, right? Are medications available at low cost?
Dr. Walker: We have three pharmacies, six locations, and you can use any health center we have. We have low prices, and it is available for all our patients.
Luis Latino: Well, very important information for the entire Latino community of Northern Nevada. Community Health Alliance has been growing greatly here in our community, and you may be wondering why Travis Walker speaks Spanish so well. Well, because his mother is Cuban, so we have one more Latino in our community. Well, thanks for watching and see you soon.
