Prescription Food Pantries

Battling food insecurity while helping to treat and prevent chronic diseases by providing free, nutrient-rich food to you and your family.

Our Prescription Food Pantries provide free, nutrient-rich food to those who lack consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life.

We emphasize the “healthy, medical” aspect of our food pantries so we can better identify the nutritional needs to prevent or aid in the treatment of chronic disease. Our pantries are filled with fresh fruit and vegetables, whole grains, lean or plant-based proteins, and low-fat dairy products. In addition, canned vegetables are low in sodium, and canned fruit is packed in juice or water.

Receiving food from our pantries is simple. The only requirement is to be a patient at Community Health Alliance. Though having a referral from your provider is recommended, it is not required.

Many ask how our food pantries are equipped and supported. We have one full-time food pantry coordinator at each location, and we heavily rely on community support and volunteers to help with food shipments, stock shelves, as well as pack grocery bags for patients.

We also work collaboratively with the Food Bank of Northern Nevada and receive shipments of fresh foods on Mondays and Thursdays. We are also thankful for the multiple urban farmers and organizations in Northern Nevada who donate local produce, including Urban Roots, Desert Farming Initiative, Reno Gleaning Project, and Harvest NV.

Testimonial

I have Type 2 Diabetes and that is under control with all of their help, not only with medications but with information on diet and exercise. The food pantry is also a great help as I have been unemployed and living on a very tight budget. So, this has been a great help in these times that are so tuff. Thank you all so much.

I receive turkey meat, chicken, milk, eggs, cheese, vegetables, and soups. Things I normally wouldn’t get at other food banks. Everything I get for the week I use. Not too little. Not too much. Just the right amount. Thank you. I am so grateful.

I am able to get food from the pantry when I have appointments. It really helps me because of limited resources, every little helps. The items I receive are very healthy and greatly improve what I can prepare for my dinner which is usually my only meal of the day. Thank you to all.

The food has helped us through hard times. Alex is always amazing and caring. We appreciate this food pantry more than words can express!

The prescription food pantry has helped by providing food and produce that I use to prepare healthy meals for my family. Food cost has gone up and every little bit helps.

The food pantry has been a huge support to sustain our household. It’s a financial help and all the food is healthy. It also benefits my family’s health. Thank you for helping the community and giving us a great service through Erick.

Having the food pantry has been life saving. After Covid, life changed. Having the pantry has allowed me to continue living. I’m thankful that you are here for all of us.
